results, falling short in all three games. The team was very competitive in two

harder to return to the Regionals and perform better.

finishing in second, the team gets an invitation to the Southern Regionals to be

with a 1-0-2 mark (W-L-T).
May 23, 2010 - The 96/97 girls won State Cup. The
team went a perfect 7-0-0 to win the State's biggest tournament.

HISTORY
2009-2010 Recap (U13)
August 2010
The
2009-2010 was an interesting year to say the least. The team concluded the year
on its highest note ever by winning the State Cup, but was challenged every game
in the tough Florida State League (FSL). However, the net result was that we
became a stronger team. The girls finished with a mark of 7-1-3 (W-L-T) in the
FSL.
In tournament play, the team opened up the season by winning the
Disney Labor Day Showcase Qualifier. The team played up and made it to the
finals of the West Pines Kickoff Classic. At the Disney Junior Showcase, the
team played very well and won the bracket going 3-0-0 including a win over GSA,
an excellent team (winner of the Georgia State Cup). The team lost in a very
close semi-final match in the last minute to the Dallas Texans (three-time
winner of the North Texas State Cup). The team lost in the semi-finals at the
Orange Classic.. At the Weston Invitational over President's Day, the team
played up and made it to the championship match. That all led to the tournament
that really counted, the Florida State Cup. The team played seven games over
three weekends, went undefeated, scored 25 goals and allowed 1, to win the the
title. It was a good way to finish the year!
On an individual level, our players continued to improve and
they are working hard. The team took the summer off. We did not play 3v3 this
year as we had every previous summer. The girls are looking foward to the ups
and downs of another exciting season and for the opportunity to improve every
day.
2008-2009 Recap (U12)
August 2009
The 2008-2009 season
was another good year for the team. The team took a big leap and played up most
of the year against competition one year older, and was able to compete
effectively. The season started in Atlanta for the second straight year. The
Sting lost in the semi-final to the eventual champion. It was the second
straight year the team made the Atlanta Cup playoffs. After that, the team
started played up in the U13 division of the Florida State League. The team
started slow but quickly learned to compete against the bigger and faster
opponents and finished right in the middle of the pack with a 5-5-5 mark.
The team did play age appropriate in four tournaments and won them all (West
Pines Kickoff Classic, Plantation Thanksgiving Classic, Orange Classic and the
Gator Showcase) and had a perfect record along the way. For Region Cup, the
Sting played up and lost on PKs in the Region A final. The team then played up
and won the Palm Bay Challenge against a team that made the final 8 of State Cup
for U13 and lost in the championship of the Disney Memorial Day Classic against
a final 16 team for u13. The Sting then played up in Super-Y and finished in
second place. To close the year out, the team split into two and played in the
3v3 Challenge Sports National Championship. Out of a field of 16 teams, both
Sunrise teams made it to the finals to play off against each other for the
championship.
Most important, the team and the players really improved. The
team remains focused and is working hard so that together, the players and the
team will continue to thrive.
2007-2008 Recap (U11)
August
2008
The 2007-2008 season started and ended on a high note. The
team's first event of the year was the highly competitive Atlanta Cup. Many of
the top teams in the southeast played in this tournament, including the four
best teams from Georgia, as well as the top teams from North Carolina, Tennessee
and Oklahoma. Despite the highly skilled competition, the girls made it all the
way to the finals where they lost to the Tennessee Impact 1-0. The team had
further success during the year by winning and going undefeated in the Orange
Classic and the Region C National Cup. The girls also won two tournaments
playing up against older competition in the MLS Futbolito and the Wellington
3v3. The team played in the Central Jersey Invitational, playing the top teams
from that part of the country, and made it to the finals before losing in a
close game. The team closed the year by winning the 3v3 National Championship at
Disney and the girls went undefeated on the way to the title.
The
players continued to improve and they are great friends. This team thrives
because the players are not only good at soccer, but they are good because they
understand what being a team is all about, they understand friendship. Even the
parents get along! The team has grown on and off the soccer field. They have
learned to deal with success and even adversity. Not all was perfect (on the
field) at Sunrise this year. The team, as expected, faced excellent competition.
The team was not prepared properly and lost important games in the Gator
Showcase and the President's Cup in February and March. While the losses hurt in
the short run, they laid the ground work for a better team in the long run. The
team has thrived since then and closed the season playing terrific soccer.
The Sting anticipates another exciting year in 2008-2009. The
team returns 100% of their end of year roster for the third time in four years.
The girls' are ready for a lot of work, a lot of laughs and a lot of good
soccer, as they aim to improve everyday.

2006-2007 Recap (U10)
August 2007
2006 -2007 was a good
year for the Sting. The girls had a great time and continued to become a close
group. They play soccer together, hang out together, message each other on the
computer, talk on the phone, etc. The special bond they share off the field just
enhances the way they play and have developed on the field. In terms of soccer,
they continue to develop at a rapid clip, and have become more and more adept
with their soccer skills.
The girls played against all kinds of
competition and in all kind of tournaments. The team played 8v8, 6v6, 5v5 and
3v3. They played teams their own age and teams one year older. Each situation
presented a different set of obstacles and opportunities, and the team made many
mistakes, but they learned from all of these experiences.
The team played
up one year three times in an 8v8 format. In the Palm Beach League, the Sting
went 7-1-0 and finished in first place. The girls also played up in the Region A
Cup. The girls made it all the way to the final four, losing in double overtime.
The team finished with a 3-1-0 record at the Region Cup. In May, the Sting
played up in the Palm Bay Challenge and won the championship, going 5-0.
Overall, the team was 15-2-1 against girls that were one year older.
Playing against same age competition in a 6v6 format, the girls entered and won
three highly rated tournaments - the Orange Classic, the Gator Showcase and the
Plantation Thanksgiving Classic. The team went a combined 11-1-1 in these
tournaments. The one loss was in the first tournament game the girls played back
in November, they have been undefeated since. The team also played in the FLUGSA
league and were undefeated.
The girls got some wonderful experience in small-sided tournaments (3v3 and 5v5). Playing in five tournaments, the girls won the championship four times, and had an overall record (excluding a split squad team) of 25-1.
The girls are excited and looking forward to the new season.
They are aware that they need to improve everyday and that they need to overcome
new challenges and tougher opponents. The friendships they have made, the joy of
playing and the thrill of competition is what continues to drive them as they
aim to become better at soccer and at life.

2005-2006 Recap (U9)
August 2006
Our team has
just completed their first full season of play. The girls had a terrific
experience and everyone really improved. This team carried a very small roster,
and often played their games with one or no subs. Despite that, or maybe because
of that, the girls developed a "never give up" attitude that has really enhanced
their play. The girls on this team love to play, they listen and they work hard
all of the time. The team's main objectives are for our players to continue to
improve and to have a great time doing it.
