Sting Girls 98/99 2010-11
Season
The end of the 2010-11
season marked another positive year of development and competition for
the 98/99 Sting girls. The team was once again permitted to play up in
the FLUGSA premier league, giving the girls the opportunity to play
11v11 on the full field one year early. The season started on a high
note, with the girls coming out strong to win the Miami Super Cup,
playing in the U13 premier division. The team’s next challenge was the
West Pines Kickoff Classic, where they took the West Pines United U13
team to penalty kicks in an exciting final game in which West Pines
ultimately prevailed. The tournament season continued well, with the
Sting repeating as champions in the Disney Junior Soccer Showcase (U12
11 v 11) and the Weston Cup (U13 premier). The Sting girls next
traveled to Virginia to compete in the Jefferson Cup. Although only
giving up 1 goal with a 1-1-1- record, the team did not reach the
semi-final round but enjoyed the experience of seeing some very
competitive teams from out-of-state. The girls were permitted to play
in the U13 State Cup, where they reached the round of 16, losing in a
hard-fought battle (in overtime) with Ponte Vedra, eventual State Cup
finalist. In league play, Sunrise went undefeated to win the FLUGSA U13
premier league, with a record of 12-1-0, and finished second in the
playoffs to Palm Beach Kicks, who won in penalty kicks. The Sting
welcomes its new players and looks forward to another season of soccer
and camaraderie. The end of the 2009/10 season marks the end of the 98/99 team’s third year, and they have continued to grow, learn, and develop. The girls had a successful season, starting off with second-place finishes in the Atlanta Cup, playing U11, and in the Boca Raton Soccer Skills Unlimited Tournament, where they played up in the U12 premier division. The team, although a true U11 team, was permitted to play in the top division of FLUGSA U12. The girls rose to the challenge, finishing third in league play, and finishing second in the Playoffs. Along the way, the team achieved first-place wins at the Disney Junior Soccer Showcase, playing U11, and in the Weston Invitational, where they played in the U12 premier division. To cap off the season, the girls claimed the U11 Region A title, and finished third in President’s Cup. We hope to build on this year’s success and make the jump to the full field next year. While the girls have worked hard, and consistently shown their dedication and love of the game, they have also continued to grow in their friendships. We are looking forward to a great 2010/11 season with a very special group of girls!
