U9 Girls finish in second in debut tournament

Sunrise newest team the U9 girls entered their first tournament ever this weekend in West Pines and came home with a second place finish and had a lot of fun in the process. Having only been training for about a month, with no competitive experience on the entire team, this group of young players entered their first official event ever and walked home with the second place metals.  Beginning with a tough loss Friday night to eventual champs West Pines, Sunrise returned Saturday and managed their first victory ever  vs. Parkland.  Sunday followed with a tie vs. Weston and a victory over Ft. Lauderdale Select, securing them second place overall in the U9 gold division.

Coaches Melisa Camacho and Haleigh Stremanos have been working hard to teach these girls the game.  "It is not easy as we are starting from scratch with new beginner players, and we can only give them so much information at one time", says coach Haleigh.

Many players from other clubs are far more advanced than most of our girls, but with work and commitment from the players and parents these girls have the desire to learn and become one of the premier teams in south Florida.

With coach Haleigh away with R3PL duties, coach Melisa guided these girls into their first event and left very proud of each girls efforts.  The girls now have a basic understanding of what it takes!  This team consists of Destinee McGee, Julia Harriott, Alanna Lutchmansign, Izzy Fraser, Emilia Geck. Julianna Zorilla, Keoni Beckford, Gloria Bocyck, Morgan Rhett & Alyssa Contarino.

Well done ladies!!!
