98/99 Team wins the Melbourne Labor Day Challenge
Melbourne, Fl (September 1, 2008) - The Sunrise Sting 98/99 girls team won the Melbourne Labor Day Challenge by going a perfect 4-0. The girls started against the Wellington Wave. The game had a slot start as both teams know each other, having played against one another in previous championships (West Pines and FAU). The Sting prevailed, winning 5-2.
In the second game, Sunrise defeated Treasure Coast 5-0. The 2-0 record moved
the girls into the semi-finals, where they were matched up with Treasure Coast
again. The game started out fast and furious as TCU scored an early goal, but by
half time Sunrise had a 2-1 lead. The girls came out inspired in the second half
and won the game 7-2.
The championship was another rematch with Wellington. The game started very
tight as both teams were playing hard. Sunrise took a 1-0 halftime lead. The
pace picked up in the second half and Sunrise scored two more times for the 3-0
victory. It was the fifth championship in a row for the team. The girls scored
20 goals and allowed 4 for the tournament.
