U8s Get to Final, U9s Play Tough at FAU

April 11, 2005 - Our two new teams debuted this weekend at the
FAU 5v5 Tournament in Boca. Both teams were formed less than
two months ago and were playing teams with considerably more
experience.

The u8 team made it to the finals undefeated where we lost to
Delray "A" 2-1. Delray scored the winning goal on a beautiful
shot with a few minutes remaining. The fact that we played
this tournament with only five players and no substitutes came back
to haunt us in the final game. Even though our girls played with
every ounce of energy they had left, they were simply running
out of fuel in the final game. Delray, on the other hand, had a full squad
and was taking advantage of that moving players in and out constantly.

Overall, the u8s finished tied with Delray for the best overall record (3
wins and 1 loss). Our team scored the most goals in the entire age group
with 12 and we allowed the least amount of goals, 3. We had victories over
Delray "B" (6-0), the Eagles (3-1) and Delray "A" (2-0).

Having said all of that, Delray "A" was an excellent team, outplayed us in
the final game, and deserved to win the championship.

The u9 team finished 1-2. We were up against experienced travel teams and
it showed. Boca United beat us in the first game 4-1. We played them pretty
well, but they pounced on the few opportunities we gave them. We had no
problems with Treasure Coast United, winning that game 8-2. In the final
game, we played Parkland,  they beat us 3-2 and then went on to win the
championship. Despite losing two games, we showed that we can be
competitive. With experience the u9s are going to be a very good team.
