1/10/2011
JWU has named Phil Zayas as the new men's soccer coach
after an extensive coaching search.
Coach Zayas will take over
the program starting in January. He brings a wealth of experience to JWU
after being an assistant men's coach at St Thomas University and Florida
Memorial University. Most recently Coach Zayas was the head girls coach
at American Heritage where he led the team to two state championships,
was named Broward County Coach of the Year and the team was ranked in
the Top 10 nationally both seasons. Prior to his stint at American
Hertigage he was the head boys coach for five seasons at Everglades High
School. His overall head coaching record is 119-32-17.
"Phil
brings great energy and enthusiasm to the position. This is basically a
rebuilding job so we felt Phil's knowledge of local soccer, the Sun
Conference, recruiting the local area and his success as both a head
coach and assistant coach are a perfect fit for JWU. Coach Zayas is a
great addition to the Wildcat athletic family" said Director of
Athletics, David Graham at his weekly press conference.
JWU is a
member of the NAIA and The Sun Conference
