Lynn Women’s Soccer Falls at Florida Tech
9/19/10
Melbourne, Fla. – Lynn University’s women’s soccer team lost its first
match of the season, falling 1-0 at No. 23 Florida Tech in its Sunshine
State Conference opener. A goal in the 30th minute of play ended the
Fighting Knights shutout streak at 282 minutes and pushed their overall
record to 3-1-1.
The Panthers (4-1-0, 1-0-0 SSC) came out firing
in the opening minutes of play, catching LU on its heels with a couple
of quick runs through the defense. Lynn gave as good as it received,
countering with a few runs to restore balance to the match.
The
defensive unit of Rio Hanlan, Alison Ramsey, Paige Meggison, Gabriela
Wuyke and Scout Stowe stifled FIT’s attack for much of the day but a
mistake at 29:21 turned the tides in Florida Tech’s favor. Kelly
Whittaker slipped unnoticed through the LU back four and had a breakaway
opportunity inside the box. A trip-up from behind halted her progress
but gave the Panthers a penalty kick. Casey Lademann nailed her shot to
the right side for the goal.
Kelsey Butler did a great job in net
for the Knights, stopping five shots. Melissa Ortiz led LU with five
shots, four of which were on goal. Florida Tech outshot 14-7 overall and
7-5 on net.
