Gets Second Straight Win With 2-0 Triumph Over Virginia Tech
TAMPA (Sept. 10, 2010) – The University of South Florida men’s
soccer team got two second half goals from Shawn Chin and Shane Wixted,
and outshot Virginia Tech 22-12 on the night en route to a 2-0 win over
Virginia Tech Friday night in front of a record crowd of 2,669 at the
USF Soccer Stadium.
Chin got the Bulls (2-1-1) on the board when
he buried a penalty kick home in the 58th minute, when Bernardo Anor
passed a ball to Hasani Sinclair and Sinclair was taken down in the
18-yard box.
Wixted would then be in the right place at the
right time for his first career goal. Following a Hokie foul, Anor would
get a free kick from about 22-yards out. Anor’s shot would avoid the
Virginia Tech wall and beat Hokie goalkeeper Kyle Renfro, however would
go off the left post. Wixted would play the ball in front of the
Virginia Tech goal, turn and send it to the back of the net in the 81st
minute.
On the night, USF’s All-America net minder, Jeff
Attinella, would record five saves as he registered his 20th career
shutout and his third straight this year.
USF will now hit the
road for three straight matches, two in the Embassy Suites Kickoff
Classic at Florida Gulf Coast (vs. Ohio State on Sept. 16 at 5 p.m. and
Drexel on Sept. 18 at 5 p.m.) and then in its BIG EAST opener at
Connecticut on Sept. 24 at 7 p.m. The match with the Huskies will also
be broadcast nationally on ESPNU. The Bulls return home on Sept. 29 vs.
Rhode Island at 7:30 p.m.
