No. 13 Bulls Play To A Scoreless Draw With Saint Louis
TAMPA
(Sept. 4, 2010) – The No. 13 ranked University of South Florida men’s
soccer team hit the road for the first time tonight, during the 2010
season, heading to the Midwest to face traditional national collegiate
soccer power Saint Louis, and played the host Billikens to a 0-0 draw in
front of 1,054 at Robert R. Hermann Stadium.
Each team went
back-and-forth in what was a relatively uneventful first half with both
teams accounting for two shots apiece during the first 45 minutes of
play. USF’s best opportunity in the first half came in the 41st minute
when Ben Sweat put a shot on goal only to have the attempt stopped by
Saint Louis goalkeeper Nick Shackelford.
In the Second stanza,
Shackelford was tested quickly by the Bulls when Bernardo Anor made a
run up the left side of the field and put a low liner on net, however
the Billiken net minder corralled the shot keeping the game scoreless
less than one minute into the second half.
Saint Louis seemingly
took the lead in the 73rd minute of play when Christian Briggs put the
ball into the back of the net, however the goal was waved off when the
play was whistled offside.
After a scoreless regulation, USF
looked to attack quickly when Aubrey Perry got a shot off that beat
Shackelford, however went just high over the crossbar in the 92nd
minute.
In the second extra 10-minute session, USF’s Shawn Chin
got open and put a got a shot off that went just wide just under the
101st minute, and then Anor would make the Bulls last bid at a win with
a shot that also went wide.
All-America keeper Jeff Attinella
recorded two saves in the tie for the Bulls.
USF will return
home on Tuesday, Sept. 7 when it butts heads with Stony Brook at 7:30
p.m. at the USF Soccer Stadium in the first of two straight matches at
home. The Bulls will close out the short two match stretch when it faces
