Five Gator Soccer Players on 2010 Preseason All-SEC List

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – A league-high five University of Florida players are among the soccer coaches Preseason All-Southeastern Conference team, the league office released on Monday. Since the league started the Preseason All-SEC team in 2007, five selections by a program is an SEC record. The previous high was four selections by the Gators in 2007.

This is the fourth year for the preseason All-SEC team. The coaches preseason All-SEC team consists of a minimum of 11 players. Each SEC head soccer coach voted for five attackers, five defenders and one goalkeeper. No ties were broken. Florida is the four-time defending SEC champion, claiming the 2009 title with an 8-1-2 record in league play.

The Gators among the 2010 SEC Soccer Preseason List includes:

Ashlee Elliott (Sr., MF)
- 2008 & 2007 All-Southeastern Conference first-team selection
- 2008 National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA)/adidas All-Southeast Region second team selection
- 2007 All-SEC Tournament selection
- Coming off a redshirt season after suffering an anterior cruciate ligament tear of her left knee early in 2009 campaign

Katie Fraine (Sr., GK)
- 2009 All-Southeastern Conference first-team selection
- 2009 National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) All-South Region first team selection
- 2009 All-SEC Tournament selection
- 2009 TopDrawerSoccer.com National Team of the Season first-team
- Led SEC with her goals-against-average of 0.61 in league play

Lindsay Thompson (Jr., F)
- 2009 All-Southeastern Conference second-team selection
- 2009 National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) All-South Region second-team selection
- 2008 SEC All-Freshman selection
- Led UF in goals (10) and points (22) as a sophomore

Erika Tymrak (So., MF)
- 2009 Southeastern Conference All-Freshman team selection
- 2009 National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) All-South Region third-team selection
- 2009 Soccer America All-Freshman second-team

- Led UF in 2009 with seven assists, third in points (17) and fifth in goals (5)

Kathryn Williamson (So., D)
- 2009 Southeastern Conference All-Freshman team selection
- Sat out 2008 season recovering from right anterior cruciate ligament tear suffered in spring of 2008
- Only field player to start all 24 matches and second among field players with average of 84.7 minutes per match

A chance to see the 2010 Gator soccer team in preseason action is set for Saturday, Aug. 14 at 7 p.m. when UF plays host to Alabama-Birmingham. Soccer will be the first Florida team to compete this season, as the Gators open the 2010 season against three in-state rivals, starting at home against Miami on Aug. 20. The Gators then take to the road to play at UCF on Aug. 22 and return home to play Florida Atlantic on Aug. 27. The 2010 season will be challenging for the Gators, as over half of Florida’s 19 regular-season opponents received berths in the 2009 NCAA Championships’ 64-team field.
