TALLAHASSEE, Fla. As the Florida State soccer team hit the field for
its first official day of practice on Wednesday, August 4, the Seminoles
quickly shifted their focus from having fun in the sun to fine tuning
their skills before the season opener in Pullman, Wash., against
Washington State on Friday, August 20.
Throughout the summer,
Seminoles.com provided fans with an inside look at how each current
Seminole was spending their summer vacation. Now its time to provide
our summer league wrap-up.
The U.S. U-20 team fell short of
defending their gold medal performance from the 2008 World Cup falling
to Nigeria in the quarterfinals of the 2010 FIFA World Cup in Germany.
With both countries playing to a 1-1 tie after 120 minutes of action,
Nigeria proved to be too much in the penalty kick round defeating the

all 90 minutes, while Casey Short earned her first start of the World
Cup and played 66 minutes.
