Four-Time State Champions Wellington Wave U18’s
One more
equals four! That is the amount of consecutive Florida State Cup
Championships the Wellington Wave U18 Boys Team have won.
Winning
the Florida State Cup Championship in 2007 was the beginning of a fairy
tale journey for the club that no one could have foreseen. This weekend
was the culmination of 4 years of success in the highest level of soccer
across the state, with the team repeating as state champions for the
fourth year in a row. The team has not lost a State Cup game in 24
straight contests beginning in 2007 as U15’s and ending in 2010 as
U18’s. This year they ran through the field of FC America Red 6-0,
Dunedin 3-2, FCA Omni 2-1, HCU 3-2, semi against Space Coast 4-0 and
final against Weston 4-1, for a total of 22 goals for and 6 goals
against.
Despite coming from many diverse cultures and
backgrounds, this team has stayed the course and supported one another
throughout the last four years. There are no super stars on this team,
just a cohesive group of players who work together for the success of
the squad, and therefore have reaped the benefits of their hard work.
The majority of this team will be continuing their soccer at the
collegiate level next year while pursuing their education.
By
winning this championship the team has qualified to represent the State
of Florida in the Southern Regional Championships in Baton Rouge, LA
from June 17-23, with hopes of qualifying for Nationals. This is no
small feat to accomplish, and with the economy being what it has been
over the last couple of years, athletics has taken a hit on funding. The
team is looking for any type of sponsorship or fundraiser to be able to
complete their season on top. Please contact team manager Alex Servellon
(561 702 0834) OR Patrick Zoete (561 252 1467) with any type of
assistance you can offer.
The team members are: Juan Correa, Luis
Helguera, Jeffrey, Hoover, Ryan Hullihan, Nadier Jabr, David Maldonado,
Peter Martinez, Kevin McEntree, Russell Miller, Nico Olsak, Dylan Pepia,
Brandon Servellon, Sam Tover, Alfonso Undiano, Michael Vargas, Max
