Soccer Welcomes Four New Players This
Spring The Seminoles added two transfers and two early enrollees to
the roster this spring.

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The Florida State women’s soccer
team added four players to the roster this spring including two
transfers and a pair of freshmen that enrolled at FSU in January. The
newcomers include Abby Carr (Miami Springs, Fla.), Janice Cayman
(Catholic University Leuven/Brasschaat, Belgium), Katya Gokhman (Furman
University/Atlanta, Ga.) and Tuija Hyyrynen (Helsinki, Finland).
Carr is a South Florida native who enrolled at Florida State a
semester early; however, she will be rehabbing an ACL tear throughout
the spring season. During her high school career, she was a three year
starter at Miami Springs Senior High. In 2007 and 2008, she was named to
the Miami Herald All-County First Team. In 2009, Carr was named Player
of the Year by the Miami Herald, while also earning recognition as a
2009 ESPN All-Area Primetime Player. The midfielder also experienced
much success at the club and ODP level. Her club team, Team Boca, won
the state championship in 2007 and 2008 and captured the Region III
Premier League title in 2007 and 2009. At the ODP level, Carr has been a
member of the Region III ODP team from 2007 to 2008. Carr has shown that
she can excel in the class room as well serving as an honor roll student
as well as a member of the National Honor Society.
Cayman is a
transfer from Belgium and is a member of the Belgium Full National Team.
Cayman, who will play as either a midfielder or forward for the
Seminoles, will participate as a senior at the start of the fall 2010
semester. While in Belgium, she played for the club side KVK Tienen and
in the 2007 and 2008 seasons she was named the MVP of the Belgian
Competition for the First Division.
Gokhman, a transfer from
Furman University, enters Florida State in the spring as a sophomore.
During her freshman year at Furman, Gokhman appeared in 19 games
starting 16 in the midfield. She finished the season earning a spot the
All-SoCon Tournament Team. In 2009, she was a member of the All-SoCon
Second Team. Gokhman, a Russian native, is a member of the U-19 Russian
National team. She captained the U-19 squad that competed at the U-19
UEFA Championships. In high school, Gokhman was a member of the National
French Honor Society and at Florida State she plans on majoring in
sociology.
Hyyrynen comes to Florida State from Finland, where
she is a member of the Full Finnish National Team and has earned 19 caps
playing for her native country. While in Finland, freshman the defender
played for the club side of HJK from 2005-2009. Hyyrynen helped her club
team win the Finnish League in 2005, and from 2006 to 2008 she helped
lead HJK to the Finnish Cup title. She also won personal accolades for
her play with HJK. In 2007, Hyyrynen was named the Best Finnish Player
and in 2009 she was named the Best Female Finnish League Player which is
an award voted on by the players. While at FSU, the freshman plans on
majoring in Early Childhood Development.
The Seminoles will take
to the field this Saturday in their first live action of the spring as
the Garnet and Gold travel to Athens, Ga., to face Georgia and Nebraska.
