Despite outshooting the University of Buffalo 25-7, the FIU women’s soccer team dropped the match against the Bulls, 2-0, Sunday afternoon at University Park.

“The first ten minutes were a little shaky but we had our chances, very good chances, but we just couldn’t capitalize,” said second year head coach Thomas Chestnutt. “Our finishing has to be better but hats off to Buffalo as well.”

Kassandra Sorzano (Miami, Fla.) nearly gave FIU the lead in the 42nd minute when she dribbled into the box, beating two Buffalo defenders before taking a shot that was deflected and sailed wide.

After battling to a first half tie, the Bulls jumped on FIU with two early second half goals by Lindsey Bailey. On the first goal in the 48th minute, Bailey dribbled past several FIU defenders and placed the ball perfectly over goalkeeper Melanie Raimo (Tampa, Fla.). In the 61st minute, Bailey’s second goal was set up by an excellent through ball from Caitlin Higgins.

“Even after we got down, we kept fighting but we’ll just have to continue to get better this week in preparation for Friday night,” said Chestnutt.

FIU will travel to Tallahassee on Friday to take on 2007 National Runner-Up Florida State before heading over to Jacksonville to take on North Florida on Sunday.
