Rush have good turnout
5/30/08
Orlando, FL: The first night of Player Placement (Tryouts) for the newly
formed Florida Rush Soccer Club didn’t disappoint organizers. The long
anticipated merger of Orange County Soccer and Inter-United Soccer
resulted in over 500 players turning out for the first of three
scheduled Player Placement nights for the Florida Rush Academy Teams.
As many as 60 athletes turned out for single age groups, to compete for
opportunities in the Florida Rush Academy. About 200 girls and 350 boys
were at the Wednesday sessions.
The merged club returns an exceptionally strong girls program consisting
of three State Cup finalist teams. They are led by Corey Shefffield,
Bobby Hurring and Allie Blagriff.
“Anytime our kids can get great coaching with all the best players on
one team will mean success” said Carrie Bruce, parent of a player trying
out for the U15 boys age group. The boys side combines two solid boys
programs including a stellar U16 age group made up of three of the eight
finalist teams in this year’s Florida U15 State Cup. The U14 age group,
with more than 40 players in attendance, is also made up of a current
final eight State Cup team.
The Rush is pleased with the addition of new coaching staff, including
former Stetson Head Coach Sean Murphy and current Orlando Sharks Captain
Gaston Pernia. Their playing and coaching experience will compliment the
highly qualified coaches already retained as a result of the club
merger, including three who hold the USSF “A” License and four coaches
holding the USSF “B” License.
