Pinecrest Premier U14 Girls Win Region A
March 25, 2008
Pinecrest Premier U14 girls win Region A, despite facing what seemed to
be insurmountable odds in the championship match against the Makos.
Pinecrest opened the game facing injuries and illness to key players
that were instrumental to their success during the regular season. With
no substitutes available and sometimes playing with 10 on the field,
Pinecrest won the closely contested match 2-1.
The game was a rematch from the regular season FLUGSA game were
Pinecrest lost at the Makos home field 2-0. Their birth in the
Presidents Day Cup Tournament is a just reward for the hard work the
girls have put into this season, after falling short of their goal in
the FLUGSA playoffs.
Coming off their win in Gainesville at the Gator Showcase from the
previous weekend, Pinecrest opened the FLUGSA playoffs this year against
Sunrise with a 2-1 overtime win. They returned to the field the very
next morning to play their sixth game in a week only to lose to Miami
Premiere 2-0 in the semifinal round. Despite the disappointing loss the
team has rebounded, and since gone undefeated through Region A cup
tournament.
