MIAMI FC KENDALL U-16 AND U-18 TEAMS SWEEP FOUR WEEKEND MATCHES
3/7/08
Wins Come Against Teams from Metro United and Scott Gallagher in the US
Soccer Development Academy League
Miami, March 6, 2008 – The Miami FC Kendall U-16 and U-18 teams that
play in the US Soccer Development Academy League each earned shutout
wins against Illinois’ Metro United and Missouri’s Scott Gallagher in
games played at Tropical Park this past weekend.
Playing an official league match for the first time since last November
due to the High School season break, the U-16 boys kicked off the
weekend on Saturday with a 2-0 victory over Metro United. Forward Shane
Malcom drew first blood with a first half goal from inside the area and
midfielder Christian Ramos headed in a long throw-in from Jordan
Fernandez to cap the scoring.
In the evening’s second match, Miami FC Kendall’s U-18, broke open a
match that remained deadlocked at halftime, producing second half scores
by U-20 US Men’s National Team member, Cristian Gonzalez and midfielder
Hosman Ramos.
In Sunday’s games against Scott Gallagher, Miami FC Kendall did not let
up. Alvaro Bastidas’ goal proved to be the difference maker as the U-16
team opened the day with 1-0 win. The U-18’s followed with another 2-0
win on the shoulders of Nicholas Ramirez and Alvaro Yusty, who each
scored a goal. The result was especially gratifying for Ramirez and
Yusty, two players who are on the developmental roster and were called
up to take center stage this weekend.
With the weekend results, the U-16’s extend to eight their streak of
unbeaten games and now sport a record of 7-0-1. They are tied for second
place in the Southeast Division, but have played four less matches than
division leader IMG Soccer Academy. For their part, the U-18’s, were
able to notch consecutive wins for the first time this season, and their
record now stands at 3-1-4. The teams play next this coming Saturday and
Sunday on the road against Southeast Division opponents IMG Soccer
Academy and Clearwater Chargers.
