FAU Women’s Soccer Lands Five Top Prospects
Top prep players have signed national letters of intent
BOCA RATON, FL (February 12, 2008) – The Florida Atlantic University
women's soccer program has announced that five of Florida’s top prep
players have signed national letters of intent to attend FAU and play
for the Owls in the Fall 2008 semester. The recruiting class includes
two players from the reigning Florida State Champion Real Salt Lake
Florida U-18 club team. The young players complement an FAU program that
has averaged 11 wins per season over the past three years, including
qualifying for the NCAA College Cup Tournament in 2005.
“These five players will blend beautifully with our returning players,
adding both quality and depth to our attack and defense,” said Brian
Dooley, FAU women’s head soccer coach. “They come from great programs
and will contribute immediately to our success. Having been great
students in high school, I expect them to excel as student-athletes. We
are proud to have them as a part of our women’s soccer program.”
Meghan Brown (Davie/Cypress Bay High School) - Played for the Weston
Fury Premier U-18 club team… forward and free kick specialist… expected
to compete immediately for playing time in 2008 with FAU graduating its
top-two leading scorers… possesses a powerful shot and has the proven
ability to assist on goals with dangerous crosses from the wings…
versatile and polished player.
Elaine Chaves (Lakeland /Lake Gibson High School) – Defender for the
reigning Florida State Champion Real Salt Lake Florida U-18 club team…
exceptional technical ability complements Florida Atlantic’s possession
oriented attack… also has the ability to join the offense by making
frequent overlapping runs... hard tackler expected to compete
immediately. ... teammate of FAU signee Katie Kent on Real Salt Lake
Florida U-18 squad.
Gabriela DeVries (Navarre/Navarre High School) – Played for the
Pensacola Lady Wolves U-18 club program… defender with exceptional pace
and endurance... strong runs into the attack should create more scoring
opportunities for the forwards… also has the ability to play wide in the
midfield… possesses great enthusiasm for the game… positive attitude
will help her in the competition for immediate playing time.
Laine Ferring (Weston /American Heritage) - Skilled mid-fielder for the
Plantation Eagles U-18 club program... has a knack of setting up the
forwards for great scoring chances… her tactical awareness should make
for creative play and precise passing… dribbling ability puts defenders
under pressure... also coaches a youth team in her club.
Katie Kent (Safety Harbor /Countryside High School) – Forward on Real
Salt Lake Florida U18 state championship team… expected to compete
immediately for the starting forward position… quickness allows her in
behind the defense and is a proven finisher… hard working mentality…
pressures defenders to create scoring chances... teammate of FAU signee
Elaine Chaves on Real Salt Lake Florida U-18 squad.
