Kendall Gets to Super-Y Semi's

11/20/07

This year Kendall Soccer U-14 Girls went with high expectations to the Super Y-League finals in Tampa, after a disappointing showing last year.

In the first game Kendall met up with Cal Cougars in a east meets west showdown, and Kendall did not disappoint, with a great game from Scarlet Montoya and Jasmine Patterson at forwards and Nicole Zamora and Barbara Murillo in midfield and Alexia Clark and captain Katrina Seidenthal in defense, they came out with a favorable 5 - 3 result.

In the second game Kendall met last years nemesis New Jersey Stallions in another epic battle, with the game going back and forth, New Jersey struck first and then Jasmine Patterson evened the score, but in the end New Jersey pulled off the upset winning 2 - 1.

In the third game Nicole Zamora took over and scored two beautiful goals, outstanding play from Alix Fiore and Cerene Arsenault solidified the midfield and the defense held tight once again with captain Katrina Seidenthal directing. Kelley Struyf the Kendall keeper had some key saves to win the game 2 -1.
This last win propelled Kendall into the semi-final with powerhouse Santa Clarita SC (California), who had until then won all its games and not allowed a single goal.

The Kendall team played valiantly against a Santa Clarita team that played flawlessly, they capitalized on some defensive mistakes and took a 4 - 0 lead into the second half. The second half saw the Kendall team come out determined to make the game a challenge, and this they did getting many opportunities to score but coming out short, Vanessa Angel the back up keeper for Kendall and the defense held tight not allowing another goal, but conceding the victory to Santa Clarita the eventual champion in the U-14 girls age group.
The rest of the Kendall team played very well during the tournament, Jessica Clark, Dasha Munoz, Heather Williams, Jenny Chaparro, Helenna Hercegonja, and Laura Piedrahita.
