22nd minute, taking a cross from sophomore Jessica Wyble (Potomac, Md.)
and fired in her second goal of the season from 22-yards out to give the
Hurricanes the 1-0 lead.
However, just 42 seconds later Duke responded with the equalizer, as
Elisabeth Redmond sent a cross into the box that Kelly Hathorn converted
into her fifth goal of the season.
The Hurricanes edged the Blue Devils 10-6 in shots over the opening half
as the teams entered the break with a 1-all tie.
But in the second half, Duke out-shot Miami 13-5, and scored three goals
over a 14-minute span to put the match out of reach.
Rebecca Allen gave the Blue Devils the 2-1 lead in the 61st minute, and
followed it up less than 10 minutes later with her fifth goal of the
season off a free kick from CJ Ludemann. Ludemann made it 4-1 in the
75th minute, sending in a shot from 26-yards out.
But the Hurricanes persevered and UM's Brittney Macdonald (Littleton,
Colo.) registered her first goal of freshman campaign, heading in a shot
from senior Sheuneen Ta (London, England) in the 87th minute for the
final 4-2 score.
Duke goalkeeper Alison Lipsher finished with five saves in 90 minutes,
while Miami senior Lauren McAdam (Simsbury, Conn.) grabbed four in the
game..
