FIU WOMEN'S SOCCER ALLOWS THREE SECOND HALF GOALS; DROPS SECOND IN A ROW
The FIU women's soccer team dropped a 3-0 decision to Middle Tennessee
Sunday afternoon in Murfreesboro.
After allowing four first half goals on Friday night, The Golden
Panthers (2-4-1, 0-2-0) held the Blue Raiders ((4-4-2, 1-1-0) )
scoreless for the first half, but an early second half gave Middle
Tennessee a lead they would not relinquish.
After a scoreless first half, it only took a minute and 34 seconds for
Kala Morgan to net her fourth goal of the season as Middle Tennessee
took a 1-0 lead.
"We held on and battled them during the first half," said FIU head coach
Thomas Chestnutt. "But that early goal in the second half really hurt
us. It gave Middle the momentum."
The Blue Raiders would double their lead in the 60th minute when Kaley
Forrest tapped in a goal from five yards out for her first goal of the
season.
The score would remain the same until the 87th minute, when another Blue
Raider netted her first score of the season. This time it was Vanessa
Mueggler who fired a shot from 15 yards away that went off the crossbar
and in.
"This was a good learning experience for our team," said Chestnutt.
"We're gonna keep improving and we're looking forward to Denver and
North Texas."
FIU returns to action on Friday, October 5 as they host the Mean Green
of North Texas at 8 p.m.
