Women’s Soccer Drops Close Game to Bronchos

9/14/07

BOCA RATON, Fla. – The Lynn University women’s soccer team put up a fight against sixth ranked Central Oklahoma but fell 1-0 to the Bronchos Friday afternoon. Natalie Feller saved a career-high seven shots but it was not enough as the Blue and White fell to 4-3 overall.

The Fighting Knights mounted several attacks within the first 10 minutes of the game, winning a corner kick just 45 seconds in and missing on two shots just outside the box. Unfortunately the Florida heat took hold just 15 minutes in, causing the sideline referee to collapse and delaying the contest for 25 minutes. Lynn appeared out-of-sync after the break and could not recover.

Central Oklahoma (5-1-1) went ahead in the 31st minute of play. Moriah Chinnock sent a cross from the left side of the field to the top of the box where forward Kasey Mahaffey was all alone. Mahaffey took three touches and fired a shot to the left post for the game-winning goal.

Feller kept the Bronchos off the scoreboard even further in the second period. Jenny Racicot chipped a shot from about 35-yards out which looked as though was going to fall just under the crossbar. Feller made a leaping save only to see the loose ball land at the feet of Lacy Williams. Williams’ first shot was blocked by Feller from her knees and the Knights’ defense cleared the second ball out before another shot could be taken.

Lynn’s best chance at scoring came with just over six minutes to go. Sarah Mendelsburg sent a cross from the right side into the far post where Summer McPhillips was waiting. Unluckily the Bronchos defense brushed away the ball before McPhillips could make a play.

Central Oklahoma out shot Lynn 12-6 and tallied five corner kicks to the Knights’ three.
