Orlando, Fla. (www.ucfathletics.com) – UCF Director of Athletics and
Executive Vice President Keith Tribble announced that the UCF Athletics
Association has extended the contract of women’s soccer head coach
Amanda Cromwell. The new deal will keep the leader of the Knights in
Orlando through the 2010 season.
“Coach (Amanda) Cromwell’s women’s soccer program over the past decade
has been the model that many of our team’s aspire to be,” said Tribble.
“She and her coaching staff have guided UCF women’s soccer to quickly
become one of the most formidable programs within Conference USA as well
as in the region. UCF women’s soccer has advanced to five NCAA
Tournaments in the last eight years and we are confident she will guide
the program to continued success.”
Cromwell, who is entering 2007 in her ninth year at UCF, lifted the
Knights to a 7-1-1 Conference USA record and second place in the
regular-season standings. With an 11-6-2 overall mark, which was the
sixth-straight year that it had notched double-digit wins, Cromwell
improved her UCF career record to 112-53-6.
“I would like to thank President Dr. John C. Hitt and Keith Tribble for
their continued support of the women's soccer program,” said Cromwell.
“Their vision for athletic excellence, as evidenced by the tremendous
growth during my eight years as head coach, makes me excited about the
future of our soccer program. The success our teams have experienced, on
and off the field, is proof that UCF is a place the elite
student-athlete seeks out. I'm proud of our past accomplishments, and
with a great coaching staff and a talented group of young women, I look
forward to even greater success in the years to come.”
Continuing UCF’s rich tradition of success on the soccer field, Cromwell
came to Orlando for the 1999 campaign. That season saw the Knights post
a 16-6-1 record and take a trip to the second round of the NCAA
Tournament. It also began a stretch of four Atlantic Sun Championships
in five seasons. In 2002, Cromwell led the Black and Gold to an
impressive 18-5-0 record, breaking the school mark for victories in a
single season.
UCF became the first team in A-Sun history to receive an at-large berth
in the NCAA Tournament when the 2002 squad went 17-4-2 overall. Cromwell
then guided UCF to the 2005 C-USA regular season title, a feat the
Knights shared with SMU. In all, her teams have never lost more than two
conference matches in a season.
A two-time All-American as a player at the University of Virginia,
Cromwell captained the 1991 Cavaliers to the NCAA Final Four. She also
was a member of the U.S. team that took third at the 1995 FIFA Women’s
World Cup and went on to play in the Women’s United Soccer Association (WUSA).
