Miami FC wins in a dramatic comeback victory: 2-1

Miami, June 2, 2007 - Miami FC got a last-gasp goal in injury time from Eric Vasquez to grab three points on the road to the Atlanta Silverbacks. For the second time this year, Miami FC overcame a 1-0 deficit to the Silverbacks to win 2-1, just like what happen at the Orange Bowl, on May 20, 2007.

Atlanta scored a controversial goal in the 31st minute. Justin Moore received the ball inside of Miami’s box apparently in an offside position and then crossed the ball – that passed by Pat Hannigan - to Tony McManus who touched the ball into the net. Miami FC players complained to the referee that his hand touched the ball as well.

In the second half, Zinho crossed in a low ball from wide on the right side and Julio Cesar stretched to put the defender to the ball and slot the ball with his right foot by the Atlanta goalkeeper. This was Julio Cesar’s first goal of the season.

Eric Vasquez grabbed the winner in injury time when the Atlanta defense gave him just enough space at the top of the box to get a shot off. His quick turn and right-footed blast beat the Atlanta goalkeeper to the near post. The referee blew the final whistle just after Atlanta took the following kick off.

Miami FC improves to 4-6 on the season with 12 points and next plays Thursday, June 7 at 8:00pm at Tropical Park Stadium against the Puerto Rico Islanders.
