Four Teams from RSL Florida Reach
the State Finals
5/20/07
RSL Florida sent five senior teams, more than any other club in the
state, into the final week-end of State Cup play. Of the five teams,
four made it to the finals for a chance to play for the state title.
Adrian Bush, General Manager for RSL Florida states; “This is an
outstanding accomplishment for the club and the players. We have
certainly set the bar very high and look forward to continued
development as a club.”
The U-17 girls have come really far and what they did to get to the
title game was nothing short of phenomenal. They played every seeded
team in the state and demonstrated tremendous effort. The U-17 girls
will be the first to represent RSL Florida at the Southern Regional
tournament. These newly crowned state champions serve as fantastic role
models for our younger girls teams who are looking to follow in their
footsteps.
The RSL Florida girl’s competitive program provided heavy competition at
every age group as the losses suffered were all in extremely tight
games. The U-14’s played through the Round of 16; the U-13 (lost 1-0)
and U-15 girls (lost 2-1) made it to the quarterfinals before getting
knocked out; the U-19 girls (lost 2-1 in double overtime) made the final
four; the U-16’s were finalists and lost (1-0) in the championship game
and the U-17’s won the State Title.
Also winning the State Title game were the U-17 boys team who repeated
with back-to back state championships. Bush comments on the win; “This
team has unbelievable character and drive for excellence. They worked
their way through 8 games in State Cup and never gave up a goal. I’m not
sure that has ever been done in the history of FYSA State Cup. We are
very happy to be representing Florida in the Southern Regional games and
hope to be competitive.”
Of the U-13 boys and the other teams that lost in the final four or
finals Bush states; “These teams have nothing to feel bad about; each
had over 50 teams in their age groups that did not get a chance to play
on to the last week-end. We are very proud of their accomplishments this
season and look forward to building in 2007-08.”
