Miami FC falls to the Rochester Rhinos 1-0 in season opener

MIAMI, April 15, 2007 - Miami FC lost 1-0 to the Rochester Raging Rhinos on Sunday night in its 2007 season

opener. Pouring rain at time of kickoff limited the attendance to 500 but there was one especially notable face in

the crowd as former Miami FC player Romário watched the match.

Miami’s best two chances of the match came in the 15th minute. A Zinho cross found the head of Ignacio “Nacho”

Calcagno, who flicked the ball towards goal with pace. Rochester goalkeeper Scott Vallow made the diving save

but gave up a rebound that bounced to Eric Vasquez outside the box. Vasquez struck the ball well to the far post but

Vallow was again up for the challenge.

Rochester’s Kenney Bertz scored in the 70th minute from a header off of a John Menyongar corner kick.

The Copa America trophy was available for pictures at the entrance of the stadium.

Miami FC’s next match (friendly) is April 21st against Club Olimpia of Honduras at 8:00pm at Tropical Park Stadium.
